These letters, spanning the month of June 1885, are from the residents and offices of Finney County, Kansas regarding the sheriff to Kansas Governor John Martin. The vacancy of the county sheriff was due to the death of the current sheriff, James R. Fulton. William D. Fulton and C. D. Wentworth were two candidates that had recommendation letters and signed petitions. There is also a newspaper clipping telling of deputy sheriff Wentworth's arrest of the Terrills. William D. Fulton was appointed. Finney County was organized on October 1, 1884 and named to honor Kansas Lieutenant Governor Finney of Woodson County.
