Shown are three dart points, all with contracting stems, that were collected from a site in Wyandotte County and, in 2002, donated to the Kansas Historical Society. The site was recorded as having multiple occupations from the Middle Ceramic to Historic periods, but these dart points date to an earlier point in time. Archeologists often identify projectile points based on their stem types. Dart points would be mounted to the dart foreshaft, which would in turn be connected to the dart shaft. The assembled dart would then be thrown with an atlatl (spearthrower).
