These six projectile points were collected from a Sumner County archeological site occupied repeatedly during the Early and Middle Ceramic periods. The artifacts were donated in 1974 to the Kansas Historical Society. Most of these points cluster towards the earlier occupations. One corner-notched dart (bottom right) was made of Alibates flint, a silicified or agatized dolomite from the Canadian River valley in the Texas panhandle. The other dart points are all made of heat treated Permian chert. Chert was sometimes heat-treated prior to finishing to make it easier to knap. Five of the dart points are corner-notched and one is a stemmed fragment (upper right).
