This scrapbook from Maude Mitchell includes photos of family and the Mitchell homestead, otherwise known as the "Big Four Ranch", in Wabaunsee County. The ranch was located three miles east of Wabaunsee. Captain William E. Mitchell built the home in 1856. He was a member of the Beecher Bible and Rifle Society. The home once served as a safe house for enslaved people seeking their freedom. Today it is maintained as a private residence.
