Henry Wilson, the senator from Natick, Massachusetts, writes Charles Robinson, in Lawrence, Kansas Territory, to express Wilson's, and his friend's, anxiety "about your new state." Wilson believes it a mistake for Kansas Territory to have organized the Republican Party before gaining admission to the Union, but now that the party existed he warns "Don't for God's sake let the Democrats carry it."
