Willis Gorman, the Governor of Minnesota attaches an appeal from James Lane and Charles Robinson to his message to the speaker of the House of Representatives dated February 18, 1856. The appeal from Kansas Territory is dated January 22, 1856. It requests assistance because Kansas Territory faces "an overwhelming force of the Citizens of Missouri" organized on the Missouri border for invasion of Kansas. Gorman's message to the legislature indicates the extra legal status of the Free State Government headed by Robison and urges non intervention.
