George Washington Deitzler was a free state supporter and resident of Lawrence, Kansas Territory. He was active in social activities in Lawrence and was an officer in the Kansas Volunteers for the Protection of the Ballot Box. Free staters Deitzler, Charles Robinson and John Brown, Jr. were arrested and held prisoner near Lecompton.
