This list documents the distribution of the New York Indian lands in Kansas Territory according to provisions of a treaty dated January 15, 1838. The list identified the names of New York Indians entitled to 320 acres within the territory's New York Reservation. It was submitted to the Secretary of the Interior on June 9, 1860, and approved on June 16, 1860. Like many Native Americans, the New York Indians had to endure future changes with regard to land ownership as more and more white settlers moved to the American West following the Civil War.
