My dear Governor:

 

 

in reference to the matter of the of the separation of the white and colored children in schools of cities of the second class, desire to hand you herewith a petition from citizens of Galena, asking that a law be passed permitting the Boards of Education of second class cities to do this.

 

 

You may recall that the writer, in company with C.W. Squires and Rev. A.F. Cameron, called on you in regard to this matter on last Wednesday, the 22d inst.

 

 

I desire to assure you that the signers to this petition are representatives of all classes of people in the city and is entirely non-political in its character.
