Isaac Goodnow obtained this written endorsement of Bluemont College from William H. Goode, who emphasized both the need that Manhattan, Kansas Territory, had for the college, and the beneficial influence it would have on the community. This statement of support was solicited, perhaps, in response to William R. Clark's letter of February 29, in which he declined to act as financial officer for the college, in part, because he believed the area had no need for such an institution.
