These metal buttons were recovered from the Ritchie House in Topeka during excavations by Kansas Historical Society archeologists in 1997. Each button has a different decorative pattern. John and Mary Ritchie and their family moved to Topeka in 1854 where they were instrumental in advocating for abolition and women's rights and active in farming, real estate development, and politics.
