These pottery sherds were collected from an archeological site in Cowley County and donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 1991. The rim sherd and body sherds are shell tempered and are a type called Cowley Plain. The body sherds retain traces of handles. The site is multicomponent with an occupation in the Archaic period and a Lower Walnut focus Great Bend aspect (ancestral Wichita and Affiliated Tribes) occupation during the Late Ceramic period.
