This Osage headdress, called a roach, was donated by Chief Sylvester Tinker of the Osage Nation to the Kansas Historical Society in 1987. It has a crest is made of porcupine hair and leather thongs for attachment. The storage foundation stick (used for storage) is carved and painted wood. Included are two muslin strips and a twill cord for wrapping. The Tinker collection includes hundreds of items such as these revealing the rich facets of Osage culture.
