This broken arrow was recovered after a confrontation between Native Americans and railroad workers at the Fossil Creek station (later Russell, Kansas) in Russell County. It was retrieved by a young railroad worker, Adolph Roenigk, and donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 1877. The metal tipped arrow point is attached to the shaft with sinew wrapping.
