This baby board was donated by Chief Sylvester Tinker of the Osage Nation to the Kansas Historical Society in 1987. The board was made for Chief Tinker's grandchild by Osage Tribe member Lillie Cunningham. The top panel is carved and painted in geometric and heart decorations with brass tacks accents. Chief Tinker remembered: "The idea of the baby board is to keep their body straight…is to make their feet to where they could walk good." The Tinker collection includes hundreds of items such as these revealing the rich facets of Osage culture.
