This pipe stem and bowl fragment was recovered from Fort Wallace in Wallace County at the Enlisted Men's Barracks. Pipes like this one were mass produced using molds. Fort Wallace was built in 1865 along the Smoky Hill Trail and abandoned in 1882. Archeologists from the Kansas Historical Society conducted excavations at the fort in 1997.
