This plaster cast of a petroglyph was made in 1966 at the Indian Hill archeological site in Ellsworth County and it was donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 1994. It depicts a grazing bison. The site has been described as spectacular, with glyphs covering a 50 foot long rock face 8 feet high. Weathering of the soft Dakota sandstone, graffiti, and vandalism has now obscured many of the glyphs. Plaster casting can erode and damage petroglyphs, it is best to leave petroglyphs unaltered, so they can continue to be studied and enjoyed by all.
