This toy saddle was recovered from a farmstead in Chautauqua County during excavations by Kansas Historical Society archeologists. The detailed saddle has a hole on its top for attachment of a rider. The site had multiple occupations, what archeologists call a multicomponent site, dating from the Early Ceramic period (2000 to 1000 years ago) to the first half of the 20th century. This toy dates to the latter occupation.
