This panel (side) of a patent medicine bottle was recovered from an abandoned farmstead in Chautauqua County during archeological investigations in 1995. It advertises "W. B. CALDWELL'S SYRUP PEPSIN" made by the Pepsin Syrup Company. Advertising for the patent medicine, collected by the Smithsonian Institute, labels the product as "a pleasant laxative, ideal for children, women and old folks."
