This large maul was recovered from near the Kaw (Kansa) Reservation in Morris County and donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 1980. This heavy-duty tool was pecked and smoothed into its final shape. The maul was then used as a hammer. The groove that nearly encircles the middle of the maul would have been used to haft it to a handle.
