The trap jaws shown here were recovered from an excavation of a pit in 2012 at Fool Chief's Village, a large Kansa village in Shawnee County. The plain, toothless, square jaws and mounting screws are consistent with a beaver trap from 1800 to 1820s period. The trap was cleaned by electrolysis which passes an electrical current through a liquid solution to separate the rust from the artifact.
