This pottery base sherd was recovered from the Killdeer site in Cowley County. The shell tempered pottery has an impression of coiled basketry on the exterior surface. The Killdeer site was the location of the 1994 Kansas Archeology Training Program field school, a joint venture between Kansas Historical Society archeologists and volunteers from the Kansas Anthropological Association. The site is a Lower Walnut focus Great Bend aspect (ancestral Wichita) site in Cowley County with numerous pits, basins and post molds.
