The fragments of this reconstructed pottery vessel were recovered at the Radio Lane site, a large Great Bend aspect (ancestral Wichita) village in Cowley County. The partial jar had two strap handles and shell temper. A crusty residue around the rim and upper shoulder area and firing clouds, (localized darkening of the pottery that occurs during firing) are visible. Thirty-nine pottery sherds were recovered that were a rim, upper vessel (both shown here), and a base. Kansas Historical Society archeologists and crew excavated at the site in 1995.
