This pipe tomahawk was donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 1962. It was made for the English Hudson Bay Company that traded in furs in North America. The blade is stamped with "H B CO LDD." These hand-held hatchets, commonly called tomahawks, had an blade on one end and a pipe bowl on the other. The pipe bowl has a bole hole, which was used to draw the smoke through to the axe poll where the handle/pipe stem attached.
