These two dish fragments were recovered during 1995 archeological investigations at a farmstead in Chautauqua County. The larger fragment is decorated with hand painted grapes and leaves. The reverse side has the country of origin labeling, indicating it was made in Germany. The Tariff Act of 1891 made mandatory country of origin labeling in the United States. The smaller dish sherd is decorated with a transferware pattern popular in the 1860s and beyond.
