This modified brass patch box cover was recovered from metal detection survey conducted during the 2019 Kansas Archeology Training Program field school at the Tobias site in Rice County. It used to be attached to the butt of a rifle and covered a small storage compartment that was used to carry extra supplies for loading the rifle. Both the rectangular tab and at the bottom along the edge of the circular section (two separate areas) have been modified. A hole was also drilled through it. The Tobias site is a Great Bend aspect (ancestral Wichita) village that had dense artifact deposits, house remains, and numerous deep trash-filled storage pits.
