This photograph represents the North Building of the Mission that was originally used as the Executive office of the Kansas Territory in 1855 and then later as the dormitory for the Mission. In 1968, the Shawnee Indian Mission was declared a National Historic Landmark and has since been under the operation of the Kansas Historical Society.
