A petition on May 5, 1879 from citizens of the County of Pratt asking Governor St. John to organize their county. The petition states the signatures are from legal electors of the State of Kansas. A letter from Notary Public in and for Pratt County States that Thomas W. Purcell, W. S. Purdy, and J. B. Purcell swear an oath the signatures on the petition are genuine, householders, and residents within Pratt County.
