These letters, spanning 1888, are from government officials, companies, organizations, and other individuals asking for aid to Kansas Governor John Martin. Individuals wrote asking for relief in many ways such as the procurement of land, food provisions, farming, and issues with livestock. Petitions for aid are among the letters as well. In Martin's last year of office, 1888, conditions gave way to severe drought and an economic recession.
