These letters, spanning 1887 to 1888, are from local government offices, companies, and individuals in Western Kansas asking for aid to Kansas Governor John Martin. Individuals wrote asking for relief from drought in Western Kansas. The drought affected farming, food provisions, and other necessities. Martin's last year of office, 1888, gave way to severe drought and an economic recession.
