These two letters, dated May 8 and 9, 1888, are from the county surveyor and the commissioners of Saline County, Kansas to governor John Martin. H. G. Johnston, county surveyor, wrote his resignation. The county commissioners recommended L. D. Burford as the successor with a signed petition. Saline County was organized on February 15, 1860 and named for the Saline (salt) River.
