Wentworth were two candidates that had recommendation letters and signed petitions. There is also a newspaper clipping telling of deputy sheriff Wentworth's arrest of the Terrills. William D. Fulton was appointed. Finney County was organized on October 1, 1884 and named to honor Kansas Lieutenant Governor Finney of Woodson County.
