These documents include an order of county arrest from the State of Kansas, Leavenworth for John Wells for the death of William N. Maddell. Included in the file is a letter from the Sherriff of Leavenworth county asking Governor St. John to offer an award for the arrest of John Wells. There is a letter from an individual from Sidney, Iowa who writes to the governor to inform him of the arrest of John Wells and if Kansas will pay the reward offered. The following documents pertain to inquiries into the arrest of John Wells as well as the reward being offered.
