A letter from M. S. Sprouts of Kingman, Kansas writes to inform Governor St. John of the events that unfolded during the arrest and capture of John McCoy, Sprouts also asks how he should submit his claim for the reward. In a separate letter, Sprouts advises the Governor that John McCoy also went by the alias John Spergin, Henry Helmick, and Jim Craig.
