Letters in this file are related to topics about the Price Raid Claims. One letter written to Kansas Governor St. John asks about the Kansas state-issued Union Military Scrips which were used as a form of payment at the time. Another letter to Kansas Governor St. John from a widow asks about the military money, she explains that her husband died in the war and she has not received anything. Additionally, there is a newspaper clipping that discusses the Price Raid Claims and that there are several thousand dollars that belong to citizens of this country on scrip, certificates of losses, provisions, damages, and more. Included is a letter from James G. Mimear from Kansas City, Missouri requesting the governor to urge the Kansas State Legislature to take action in regard to the Price Raid Claims. The Price Raid is a battle that involved almost 10,000 Union troops near the Kansas-Missouri border in the fall of 1864.
