The documents in this file pertain to the subject of relief aid in Kansas caused by drought and the grasshopper invasion. This description does not cover all documents in this file. A report on January 4, 1875, discusses an investigation of the destitute occurring from the drought and ravages of the grasshoppers in the North-Western portion of Kansas. A letter on January 11, 1875, from M. S. Caplice of St. Mary, Kansas, about the destitute people in his vicinity and requests relief. A copy of a list of clothing issued to the destitute in Kansas in January 1875. A letter from Whitelaw Reid writes to Kansas Governor Osborn concerning the relief fund.
