The documents in this file discuss topics relating to various Native American tribes in the State of Kansas. A letter from Captain Charles Collins on August 19, 1874, warns Kansas Governor Osborn there is anticipated trouble with the Osage Native Americans and advises the Governor to have his company available. A letter on August 27, 1874, from Levi P. Luckey, Private Secretary to the President, advises that the Governor's letter was referred to the Secretary of War and states that the Government must protect Kansas against the invasion of Native Americans. A letter from R. Hoffmaster on August 18, 1874, states that the Osage are on the warpath and they need arms, or they cannot hold their families in the county which will result in depopulation. The following correspondence continues to discuss the trouble with Native Americans in Kansas, requests for arms, and concerns relating to Native American tribes.
