The documents in this file pertain to topics relating to Native Americans in the State of Kansas. This description does not cover all the correspondence in the file. This file contains sworn statements from R. M. Johns, W. W. Turner, F. M. Howard, and F. L. Davis dated April 21, 1873, relating to the murder of Surveyors by Cheyenne Native Americans. Also included is a statement from William Thompson concerning the murder of an Emigrant party on April 11, 1873, on Medicine Lodge Creek. A letter on April 29, 1875, from C. C. Vance, states that S. Briggs wants to obtain a contract to move the Otoe Native American tribe from their reservation to the Indian Nation. A letter from W. H. Miller on June 17, 1875, encloses a copy of the memorial and resolutions adopted by the Board of Trade concerning the removal of the Sioux Native Americans. A letter on July 13, 1875, from C. Delano, Secretary of the Department of Interior, encloses a copy of a report of the Commission of Indian Affairs in relation to the murder of Osage Native Americans in August of 1874.
