The documents in this file pertain to matters related to military affairs in the State of Kansas. This description only covers a few of the documents in the file. A letter on October 12, 1877, from J. R. Hallowell, states the muster rolls bonds for arms were submitted some time ago, but he has not heard anything since then and asks Governor Anthony what will be done as men are anxious. A letter on April 7, 1878, from J. A. McCall, informs Governor Anthony he is not able to take part in the Company as there is a sickness in the Sheriff's family and the duties of the office fall upon him. A letter on August 3, 1877, from H. Martin, states there is talk of raising a military company in Atchison and asks if the State will supply arms and uniforms to the men. A letter on April 19, 1877, from John A. Nottenstein, asks if the State has the arms available spoken of by Governor Anthony in his message to the Legislature. A telegraph on April 8, 1878, from Kansas Governor Anthony to Sheriff, H. Conner of Lyon County, informs Captain Walkinshaw and a company of 50 state troops will arrive with arms and will act under Captain Walkinshaw's orders.
