The documents in this file pertain to the appointment of Regent of the State University in Kansas. A letter on July 19, 1877, from J.C. Horton, declines the appointment as Regent of the State University. In the letter, Horton suggests that if a board could be organized to take charge of the educational institution of the State then he would be willing to serve until there was consolidation. A letter on February 17, 1877, from John Rankin, states he saw that James Horton declined the position of Regent and recommends ex-Governor Robinson or B. Underwood. A letter on H. C. Cross requests the re-appointment of A. Beatty as Regent of the State University.
