This photograph represents the North Building of the Shawnee Indian Mission in Fairway, Kansas. During the Mission's operation, the North Building was used as a dormitory for students and as the executive offices for the Kansas Territory in 1855. In 1968, the Shawnee Indian Mission was declared a National Historic Landmark and has since been under the operation of the Kansas Historical Society.
