A petition on February 1st, 1872, asks Kansas Governor Harvey to appoint C. E. Newman as Justice of the Peace in and for Smith County. A letter informing Governor Harvey of the resignation of T. A. Lewis as Justice of the Peace of Belle Plaine Township, Sumner County. A petition from citizens of Belle Plaine township request A. A. Barnard to fill the vacancy as Justice of the Peace. A separate petition from Belle Plaine recommends Charles D. Brande as Justice of the Peace of their township. A letter from J. L. Abbott informs the Governor a petition asking that Ansel Gridley be appointed as Justice of the Peace of Sumner County was sent to him, and no word has been received.
