These two letters, dated April 11, 1868, are from J. B. Smith and W. R. Brown, county officials, regarding Chase County Kansas affairs to Kansas Governor Samuel Crawford. Smith wrote resigning as probate judge and recommending A. S. Howard as his successor. Brown wrote recognizing Smith's resignation and validating Smith's choice of successor. Chase County was organized in 1859.
