These letters, spanning January through March 1868, are from government officials and Kansas citizens to Kansas Governor Samuel Crawford regarding the appointment of the warden for the Kansas State Penitentiary. They wrote to either recommend others or apply for the position. The Kansas State Penitentiary was located in Leavenworth County, Kansas.
