This folder on Legislature comes from the Correspondence series of the Governor Charles Robinson Papers. This record contains a fourteen-page booklet that outlines Kansas Governor Charles Robinson's message delivered in the Hall of the Kansas House of Representatives on March 30, 1861. In the booklet the governor talks about the changes and transitions of Kansas legislative history since September 14, 1712, under the France and Spain law. In addition to the booklet, included are petitions from several Kansas counties, along with a copy of a preamble and resolution, for the governor to call together an earlier session of the state legislature from Atchison, Kansas. Charles Robinson was Kansas' first state Governor, serving from 1861 to 1863. He was born in Massachusetts in 1818 and headed the New England Emigrant Aid Company's first colony to Kansas Territory in 1854.
