These metal buttons were recovered at excavations in 1988 during a joint venture between Kansas Historical Society archeologists, Kansas Anthropological Association volunteers, and the City of Olathe. On the top row are two overall buttons, the one of the left has the printing "NATION WIDE," while the one of the right has the advertising "PREMIUM FLYER." On the bottom row is a button front with advertising for "MILLER MFG CO" and a shank button with a series of rays around the edge. The site consisted of the residence and out buildings built by James and Lucinda Mahaffie in 1858. The farmstead later served as a stagecoach stop on the Santa Fe trail.
