This photograph shows a marker identifying the Hollenberg Ranch State Park in Washington County, Kansas. Built in 1857 by Gerat Hollenberg and his wife as a way station for travelers on the Oregon-California Trail, it operated as a Pony Express Station from 1860 to 1861. Purchase in 1941 by the Kansas Legislature, the property was listed on the National Register for Historic Places in 1961.
