This photograph represents the Hollenberg Pony Express station. The Station was built in 1857 by Gerat Hollenberg and his wife on the Oregon-California trail for travelers. Originally operating as a way station, the building functioned as the pony express station from 1860 to 1861. Purchased by the Kansas Legislature in 1941, the property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1961.
