Relief sculpture of a bison, carved from a roughly rectangular-shaped piece of limestone. The bison was carved by Pete Felten, a native of Hays, Kansas. Felten became interested in sculpting in the 1950s while serving in the Navy. Primarily self-taught, Felten started his sculpting career after returning to Hays. He has completed commissions throughout the Midwest. Many of his sculptures can be seen in Hays, as well as in the rotunda of the Statehouse in Topeka. His studio, Stone Gallery, is open to the public.
