This flywheel was collected from the Saxman site in Rice County and donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 2018. The artifact was likely used for either spinning yarn or to help in drilling holes, though it is possible it was a flat ceramic handle for a vessel. Often times, artifacts are not as revealing as Archeologists would like. The Saxman site, a large Great Bend aspect village, was occupied by the ancestral Wichita.
